Basic safety and hazard control information is accessed and practices applied when assisting other members of the crew.

 

Information on PPEs on a vessel is obtained. They are checked and their use demonstrated to company procedures/regulations

 

Ropes and their use is correctly identified and demonstrated.

 

Lines are made up for berthing/unberthing of vessel.

 

Deck equipment are cared for and stored in accordance with company procedures and good seamanship practice.

The vessel’s emergency fire plan is accessed and correctly interpreted.

 

Firefighting equipment is identified, checked and correct assisting with the use of extinguishers is demonstrated.

Actual/potential fire emergencies are correctly recognised and responses are in accordance with the vessel’s plan.

 

Assisting is demonstrated in emergencies crowd control.

 

The vessel’s emergency abandonment plan is accessed and correctly interpreted. Appropriate assistance is provided in the use of survival equipment on a vessel.

 

Participation in abandon vessel drills confirms readiness to correctly carry out appropriate assistance in that event.

 

Use effective listening and questioning skills to understand, interpret and implement orders and instructions.

Use effective verbal and non-verbal communication when carrying out duties.

Use appropriate nautical language to convey information.
