Carry out pre-departure checks, complying with all safety regulations for operating a vessel’s propulsion system.

 

Safely start and monitor operation and identify the cause & symptoms of common faults. Bleed a diesel fuel system. 

 

Shut down the propulsion machinery & describe the correct procedures for tracking of repairs/replacement components.

 

 

 

Carry out pre-departure checks and operate & monitor auxilliary systems complying with all safety regulations including:

 

Pump out a bilge compartment & activate the fire main.

 

Service refrigeration equipment.

 

Steering and emergency steering gear.

 

Describe risk management including confined spaces entry.

 

 

 

All safety precautions/regulations are followed operating and servicing extra low/low voltage electrical systems including :

 

Service one bank of batteries.

 

Safely connect/disconnect a 240V shore power lead.

 

Describe risk management including confined spaces entry.

 

Describe the vessel’s emergency and contingency plans in the event of failure or emergency involving  the propulsion, auxiliary and electrical equipment.
