a. Fix the vessels position on the appropriate chart by plotting bearings using a hand bearing compass, a pelorus or azimuth circle in conjunction with the vessels compass.
b. Fix the vessels position on the appropriate chart using a combination of bearings taken as above along with depths taken using the echo sounder and ranges taken using radar.
c. Use GPS to establish the vessels position.
d. While the vessel is making way, take and plot at least two consecutive fixes and calculate: 1. Course and speed made good 2. Set and rate of current and 3. Predicted time of arrival at a pre-determined point.
