Fire hazards on board a vessel are identified, control actions taken & checks maintained for readiness.

 

Appropriate & timely action taken on identifying fire muster signals with concise reportage of fire class.

 

Correct portable firefighting equipment is selected and used to fight specific classes of fires. The precautions for class E fires are described.

 

Fires are correctly extinguished with a fire blanket in accordance with accepted firefighting practice.

 

Correct techniques are applied for the use of hose lines to extinguish fires on board a vessel.

 

Correct procedures are followed in simulation of  the testing & operation of fixed fire detection and extinguishing systems in machinery spaces.

 

Appropriate PPEs, techniques & precautions are applied when fighting fires in accordance with regulatory requirements, a vessel’s procedures and established firefighting practice.

Includes timing and sequence of actions, the use of lifelines, containment, boundary cooling and the precautions against re-ignition.
